So it’s half term here in Derbyshire which means I’ve had my little helper with me :) and I’ve also met a very talented young lady Freya, 12 years old.
Freya came into the Haberdashery to show me her makes of dolls clothes, blankets and pillows all hand sewn :) She’s got lots more to show us so which I can’t wait to see and I’ll keep you all posted. x
Very talented x
Sue’s also been a busy bee this week :)
nice hat Sue :)
I passed my 2nd module of my City & Guilds. Not many more to do now :)
And Singer have teamed up with Savile Row tailor Patrick Grant to offer anyone purchasing a new Singer machine a chance to win a place in a sewing session with patrick himself.
Me and my lovely Mum will be spending the day at the NEC in Birmingham at a trade event. We’re hoping to find some lovely bits and bobs for you all and getting to meet new suppliers.
Thanks for your support again this week, have a lovely valentines weekend and I’ll see you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on Monday.

Ok, so its been a fab busy week albeit a cold one but least the snow held off.
And its the return of the Sewing Bee. Week one and I’m already hooked but I haven’t quite worked out who is my favourite yet.
This week I’ve been sticking to the blue theme for the window display….
but of course we had a fabric delivery….
Blue and white dress net back in stock plus new colours purple and yellow.
Gingham cottons
Checked cotton…..
and these gorgeous new 100% cottons…..
There’s also time to book both knitting, crochet and sewing workshops via the website. Also if you are interested in the dressmaking workshops we are now taking names, so please pop me a quick email to ami@simplyneedlecraft.com
A big thank you to all that support us and thanks for reading.
I hope you had a good one. Its been lovely to have a few days off but its great to be back and get started on this years projects.
So first was the window display and I finished my quilt in time….just. So we decided to go with a blue theme. I hope you like it.
Our lovely Sue has set up some fab workshops for knitting and crochet over the next coming months which granny squares, cushions, hexagon and our own workshop Sue’s Surgery which will be running at the end of each month.

With 4 days until the big day we would like to wish all of our customers a Merry Christmas.
Things have changed dramatically since Christmas 2013….anybody fancy a trip down memory lane and to see some of my favourite pics?
Last Christmas we were on the market, I loved the market BUT I don’t miss the gloomy weather.
Early starts
In February we decided that the market gazebos just wasn’t big enough so we decided we needed a new home…..
Home sweet home
Within a few weeks and a few tins of paint later…..
Slowly getting there
Prepping the Window display
Nearly there
And we’re ready to open ….
Opening day
It’s been a brilliant year, the haberdashery has been so busy. Shortly after we opened our lovely Sue joined us to teach Crochet and Knitting. Her teaching skills are fab and we’re so proud of her….(I’ll keep you updated with next years dates, so get your diaries ready).
Workshops
Sue has such a warm and fun approach to her workshops and it’s never to late to learn …..
Star Pupil
We also had a lot of celebrating to do when Singer asked us to be a Singer dealership….I couldn’t quite believe it x
In November you joined us in helping to decorate the rainbows hospice with the most gorgeous handmade decorations. I can safely say that we were inundated with beautiful decorations and as a result the hospice received 97 decorations altogether. I representative from the hospice came to collect and it was a very tearful moment……I think we should do it again for next Christmas.
Don’t they look fab x
Our fabrics have grown to. I started of with a mere 25 rolls to now reaching 308 rolls now. I’ve got to say fabric is my favourite and we have the most lovely, mildly wacky rep.
We’ve had customers makes (which will be a regular feature on the blog in 2015)
Angry minion hat, it’s so warm and cosy….thanks Yvonne
On a personal note I started a City & Guilds in Design and Stitch which I’m really enjoying. So along with my quilting I’ve learned new things –
A few of my hand-made things
A truly fan packed and busy year which I have enjoyed so much.
So whats in store for 2015,
More fabric,
New range of wool felt,
More sewing machines,
A full range of bamboo crochet hooks,
Upstairs will be refurbished and opened,
Lots and lots of new lines
AND hopefully I’ll pass my first level of my City & Guilds.
So on that note, Happy Christmas everyone I’ve loved meeting each and every one of you. Thank you for your support, this would not have possible without you.
The Haberdashery Blog will return in 2015 until then happy crafting.
We’ve been in our new home for nearly 8 months now. The stock has rapidly grown and we’re get busier and busier week by week.
For me it’s a special place It’s a place full of colours, textures and variety, where I meet fantastic and talented people. The haberdashery comes alive at 9am until 5pm. Its full of laughter, ideas and inspiration. So thank you to everyone that makes it so special. x
Anyway now onto to this weeks fun.
As many of you know that have been in the haberdashery recently we now have a new stand for our cottons, thanks to my lovely husband who found this. So now its time to get it filled with hundreds of cottons in hundreds of different colours.
The donations are still coming in for the Rainbows Hospice Christmas decoration appeal….we’ve had to get a bigger basket to put them in. Thank you to everyone that has donated their time and skills so far. Remember there’s two more weeks left to go.
My favourite customer makes this week has to be this gorgeous and unique knitted Pavlova. I really love this idea, it looks so cute…..what do you think?
This week I haven’t had that much time to make anything but I did squeeze a little time to have a go at free-standing lace. It’s very elegant and simple. It’s something I’d like to make again.
We are also taking part in Small Business Saturday 2014, which is taking place on the 6th December. It’s a day for any small business with bricks and mortar and online businesses. It’s a day to inspire consumers to shop with independent retailers and to shop local. For more info visit https://smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com/#inspire-series
Well that’s about it for this week. Next week we are having two deliveries of goodies and the wool rep is back in the Haberdashery with next seasons newbies.
Thank you to everyone that follows and supports us. Have a fab weekend and I shall see you on Monday morning.
But its been half term here in Derbyshire so I’ve had my little man to help me
AND it was his 10th birthday on Thursday. So me and hubby managed to book the afternoon off to spend as a family. Even though I love birthdays it is quite sad to see your little ones grow up isn’t? But I’ve loved having him around to help me out.
So whats been happening this week….
Its been tremendously busy with customers new, old and people travelling from far and wide. We had a record amount of yarn sales, seems everyone is getting set for winter. We’ve met so many talented people of all ages. Here’s one of our young and talented……
I finished my quilt art/thread art. Loopy Sue set me a challenge do make a Tutankhamun, what do you think? I’m quite pleased with it, it’s not perfect but I think I’ve done ok!
Quilt art and free motion embroidery
Donations for the Hospice have been coming in thick and fast. All the decorations are gorgeous and the ladies have been working hard. I’m really grateful for everyone’s time and generosity. We have another month to go before we hand them over…….so keep up the good work ladies and gents.
Now are you ready to be bombarded with pics. We’ve had a fabric delivery and its topped us up nicely. Here’s most of them in all their glory. Cottons, poly cottons and muslins.
And halloween…did you have a good one. I hope you all dressed up for the occasion. But now Halloween’s been and gone it’s now time to get the haberdashery prepped for Christmas and we can’t wait (especially Mum).
It will be our first Christmas in our new home…..can’t wait. I’ll be posting pics of our Christmas window display very soon.
Yet again thank you all for your support. It’s lovely to see your makes. It’s defiantly the best part of my job as well as receiving your lovely comments and feedback.
Have a good weekend and we will see you again next week.
I know many of you follow our updates on Facebook but I also know that a lot of our followers don’t like Facebook.
So this post is for everyone who’s not had updates this week :) x
This week our new range of craft kits started to arrive. Its was the knitting that started to arrive this week with adorable rabbits and cute dogs/puppies.
Twilleys
We’ve also had the first of the handmade Christmas decorations arriving ready for Rainbows Hospice and lots more being made :) If you feel that you could help us with this donation please feel free to contact me.
This week has been a good week for makes too.

After your lovely comments on Facebook I’ve decided to take the city & guilds course in embroidery.
I had a taster module last week to see if it was the right course for me. I had to design a small bag that has 3 or 4 layers of fabric and the theme was circles and lines.
So that’s my attempt and ……. i passed :)
However I have decided that I would like Christmas out of the way first and I still have a big list of UFP’s to crack on with. So January I’ll knuckle down and take the course.
Thank you again for the lovely comments, it’s really given me a kick up the bum.
Here’s a little embroidery piece I’ve finished in the mean time
I just love the colours.
But next its to finish a quilt I started weeks ago and the decorations for the hospice.
I’ve got deliveries to unpack now so I’ll catch up with you later.

Another week gone and another week closer to Christmas :)
Time is flying by and this week it’s been all about getting ready for the festive period. Mum has been helping to plan the window display, our reps have been out to show us their Christmas goodies and we also have another Fabric supplier on board . Things are moving at a fast pace but it’s really exciting.
Many of you know I’ve been practicing hand embroidery which you were all very kind and thanks to you all I’ve decided to take a taster course before I apply for the City & Guilds. I think I just needed a push in the right direction which you certainly gave me. I shall keep you informed on my progress…..fingers crossed.
Also this week my gorgeous hubby has been helping me out again. I decided to make the haberdashery more homely so he set about mounting some of my quilts on the walls…..I like it :)
Here’s my list of people who inspire me. These ladies are all lovely, talented and unique. Go and have a look at their pages and you’ll see exactly what I mean. My list isn’t finished yet but I’ve made a start.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend and we will catch up with you on Monday. xxxxx
Many of you know I love quilting and embroidery (quite old fashioned I know).
So the last few weeks I’ve decided to try an embroidery that I’ve not tried before……crewel. I’ve really fallen in love with it.
I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out. I’ve decided to hang it in the haberdashery next week.
So then I decided, because I’m on a roll that I would try some textile art.
What do you think?
I really want to do a city & guilds in embroidery but I’ve always talked myself out of it.
